1858 Gillette’s Map of Wayne County  – This 1858 Map of Wayne County from the Library of Congress shows relatively detailed information from this time period. Landowners and businesses are very clear.  Please note – two of the Sodus Bay islands are incorrectly labeled. LeRoy Island should be Bute, and Eagle Island should be Arran. Newark is correctly labeled Islay.  Bute is sometimes spelled Butte. The Scottish Island (after which the Sodus Bay Islands were named) is spelled Bute.

1874 Huron Town Map  – Located at www.historicmapworks.com, shows detailed information from this time period. Landowners and businesses are very clear.  Please note – like the 1858 Gillette Map, two of the Sodus Bay islands are incorrectly labeled. LeRoy Island should be Bute, and Eagle Island should be Arran. Newark is correctly labeled Islay.  Bute is sometimes spelled Butte. The Scottish Island (after which the Sodus Bay Islands were named) is spelled Bute.

1904 Century Atlas of Wayne County – Located at www.historicmapworks.com.

Cornell University Collection of 1938, 1954, and 1963 aerial photos. The link will take you to the New York Aerial Photographs Page. From there you can branch out to Wayne County and then to the area of Huron you want to explore. These maps are fascinating. The resolution is reasonably good, especially for the 1938 photos. This is a fun look at “what was”.
